The Portuguese Bitoque is a traditional dish that typically consists of a grilled or pan-fried steak, usually beef, served with a fried egg, French fries, and a salad. It is a popular dish in Portugal and can be found in many restaurants and cafes.

The steak used in the Bitoque is usually a thin cut of beef, such as sirloin or flank steak, and is seasoned with garlic, salt, and pepper before being cooked. The fried egg is typically served on top of the steak, and the French fries are served alongside it.

The Bitoque is often served with a sauce, which can vary depending on the region and the restaurant. One common sauce is a garlic and butter sauce, while another is a tomato-based sauce.

The Bitoque is a hearty and filling dish, and it is often served for lunch or dinner. It is a classic example of Portuguese comfort food and is enjoyed by locals and visitors alike.

Directions

  1. In a bowl, mix together the minced garlic, salt, pepper, and olive oil. Rub the mixture all over the steaks, and let them marinate in the fridge for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the marinated steaks to the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired level of doneness.
  3. The steaks should be taken out of the skillet and placed on a platter. Add the butter and allow it to melt in the same skillet.
  4. Add the potato fries to the skillet and fry them until they are golden brown and crispy. They are taken out of the skillet and placed on a plate covered in paper towels to absorb any extra oil.
  5. In the same skillet, crack the eggs and fry them until the whites are set but the yolks are still runny.
  6. To serve, place a portion of rice on each plate, top it with a steak, and add a fried egg on top of each steak. Add a serving of fries on the side, and a salad if you like.
