12 lasagna noodles1 lb ground beef1 lb Portuguese chouriço, sliced1 onion, chopped3 cloves garlic, minced1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes1 tsp paprika1 tsp dried oregano1 tsp dried basil1 tsp salt1/2 tsp black pepper1/4 tsp red pepper flakes1 cup ricotta cheese1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F. Lasagna noodles should be cooked per the directions on the package, drained, and then left aside.
  2. Over medium heat, cook ground beef in a big skillet. Drain any excess fat.
  3. Add sliced chouriço to the skillet and cook until browned, about 5 minutes. Remove from skillet and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, sauté onion and garlic until translucent, about 5 minutes.
  5. Add crushed tomatoes, paprika, oregano, basil, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes.Cook for 10 to 15 minutes after bringing to a simmer.
  6. Ricotta cheese and Parmesan cheese should be combined.
  7. To assemble the lasagna, cover the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish with a thin layer of tomato sauce.
  8. Arrange 3 lasagna noodles on top of the sauce, followed by 1/3 of the meat mixture and 1/3 of the cheese mixture.
  9. Repeat layers of sauce, noodles, meat mixture, and cheese mixture, ending with a layer of mozzarella cheese on top.
  10. Bake for 25 minutes while while covered with foil.
  11. Remove foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes or until cheese is golden brown and bubbly.
  12. Let cool for 10 minutes before serving.
