One popular type of Portuguese papas is called "papas de milho," which is made with cornmeal and often served with a savory stew or meat dish. Another type is "papas de sarrabulho," which is made with wheat flour and pig's blood and typically eaten as a main course.

Papas are often considered a comfort food in Portugal, and they are frequently served during festivals and other special occasions. They are also sometimes served as a breakfast dish or as a dessert, depending on the type of papas and the region in which they are prepared.
