Portuguese empadão is a traditional dish from Portugal that typically consists of a pie or casserole made with layers of mashed potatoes, meat (usually chicken or beef), vegetables (such as carrots, peas, and onions), and sometimes cheese.

The preparation of empadão can vary depending on the region and the recipe, but in general, the meat and vegetables are cooked together with spices and seasonings before being layered into a baking dish with mashed potatoes. Cheese may be added as a final layer before the dish is baked until golden brown.

Empadão is a popular dish in Portugal, often served for special occasions and family gatherings. It is also commonly found in Portuguese cuisine restaurants around the world.

Would it be okay to use the sweet pimento paste instead of the hot pimento? My son in law is Portuguese but the rest of us, daughter included don’t like super spicy food. I’d like to make this for Easter.

Eddy
Yes, you should always change something according to your taste.

Just wanted you to know that my Hubby and 4 boys LOVE this recipe! I make it EVERY TWO WEEKS without fail. One of my boys wouldn’t be thrilled if I made it EVERY WEEK because he loves talking it for lunch. The bad part is that now I am PROHIBITED from buying or making it any other way🤣 So, Thank you for sharing it🙏

Eddy
That is great to hear Sue, thank you for the feedback, I will let my wife know. By the way, it is also my son’s favourite Portuguese dish.
