To make Portuguese fried pork chops, you will need to marinate the pork chops.  After marinating, the pork chops are then fried in hot oil until crispy and golden brown.

Directions

  1. In a bowl, season the pork chops with the salt, pepper and hot sauce (to taste).
  2. Chop up the garlic and bay leaf and add to the bowl.
  3. Add the lemon juice to the seasoning and mix all the contents together, cover it, and let marinate for about 2 hours.
  4. After 2 hours, heat the olive oil in a frying pan.
  5. Add the pork chops to the pan and let them brown to a golden color and remove them.
  6. Now add the remainding marinade sauce from the bowl to the frying pan with the olive oil, the water and let it continue cooking until well done.

NOTE: The sauce from the pan goes great when served with some rice or fried potatoes.

This recipe is very unclear on measurements. I seasoned the chop but I didn’t French then enough to have marinade left in the bowl. What’s to drench them in beside mom juice and hot sauce. I don’t want either over powering in taste.

If there isn't any marinade left, you should not add additional sauce or lemon juice Mark, you can however fry the potatoes in the olive oil you friend the pork chops in, it will still contain a lot of flavor.

Step 6 says continue till done, doesnt say to put porkchops back in pan? Hiw much olive oil. Doesnt give much sauce to put over rice. Measuements would be handy

Hi Colleen, step 6 is only for the sauce. As far as olive oil, hot sauce etc, it says to taste to allow you to add as much as you want/like.
